ImagePlanned Date: March 24th - Be prepared for a party... A casual gathering bigger & better than the ImageNew Year 2006 bash ... Free beer (keg), free food, good music, and (with the help of soliciting friends) possibly a live band. I do ask that any attendees bring some liquor, food (snacks), and/or drink mix(es) to share with everyone. There will be, just as there was at our New Year 2006 party, a wide array of guests, so dress comfortably & casually... I'll be creating & posting a dedicated Web site and/or page for the party in the near future. View the whole article for some answers to frequently asked questions:

How does one get invited?

There are business card-sized invitations being spread around by exclusive individuals. If you have a card or come with someone who has a card, you're OK. If not, you better find someone who does possess a card-sized invitation.

Image:    Who pays for all this mess? Is there a sponsor?

A:    Nope, this is a self- & friend-sponsored project made possible by the efforts of John, JR, V, and any others (Diane, Jeff, Stephanie, & Kevin) who have the initiative, time, and/or money to contribute. Where does all the equipment come from? I barter with local A/V companies (Optumedia, formerly Promedia) to rent their equipment in exchange for IT labor. Everything else is paid for out of pocket...

Image:    Where is this event held?

A:    It is tentatively being held at an undisclosed, rural location in Alachua, Florida. It should be close enough for everyone to attend, but rural enough to keep it low-key and out of sight. It will be loud, really loud, which is another reason to plan it for a more rural area. Detailed directions will be provided on a more private basis this time around; at the New Year 2006 party, I had a lot of people showing up without an acquaintance or invitation. Required site registration should be a fix to the problem...

UPDATE: The tenative location in Apopka, FL was changed to Alachua, FL after some deliberation with those involved in preparation & setup. This decision was made for convenience,  but the good news is that it will permit a later party of equal size in Apopka or at another undisclosed location. Contact JR for more details.

Image:    What type of food is served?

A:   In addition to snacks (chips, veggies, sweets, etc.), we have two of the best cooks in Alachua County working up some smoked/BBQ chicken & pork. There will also be some sides (potato salad, coleslaw, baked potatoes, etc.) served alongside the appetizers and main course.

Image:    What kind of music is played?

A:    A little bit of everything: electro, funk, lounge, alternative-rock, and whatever we can get a live band to play! I might be spinning this year, but if this happens I only intend to play mainstream electronica and/or retro-remixes. I know most people's taste in music isn't techno-oriented, so even if I do spin, it won't be for long.

Image:    What type of activities are available?

A:    PS2 and/or XBox/XBox360 on 2, yes two, 8-10ft. screen. Drinking, if you're of age. Lots of Drinking. Socializing, fireworks, camping (if you desire), and possibly Twister. Well, maybe Twister. It depends on how drunk everyone gets.
